I also ran the Microsoft troubleshooting wizard for fixing audio issues in Windows 8. I uninstalled and reinstalled the device driver, I uninstalled and reinstalled the sound controller and I also disabled and re-enabled the services that are responsible for Windows sound. Device properties show device is 'Working Properly'Here is the issue, I decided to do an in-place upgrade to Windows 8 from Windows 7 and the process went fine, however when I was up and running in Windows 8, I was receiving no audio.

Windows recommended I set the compatibility to WinXP SP3. I'm steering him clear from HP and sending him to Asus (he does NOT want an Apple). My husband needs a new laptop. This is just another ploy to get you to make another computer purchase of you want to upgrade. Now I have to see if I could get my money back (I seriously doubt it). I paid the $50 for Win8 Pro AND Media Center.
